12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1
Throughout this week... I have interviewed a few cancer patients, who would be my "segment", and asked about the topics proposed. I have found something super interesting:
Refresher: I am telling stories of young people's reflections on death and debilitating treatments.
Why? Yes, that is hard, but the uniqueness of this project lies on the way we do it. There is elegance and dignity to be shown even in the darkest moments. There is beauty in the thoughts of someone standing on the forefront of medicine, with a tube in the nose and a needle on the back. Patients want to talk about just that, on behalf of those in similar circumstances.
In the interviews, they told me that they are being asked to select the type of casket they prefer. They are being asked whether their eyes should go to research or transplantation. They are receiving a by-product of mustard gas used in the first world war as chemotherapy medication. The nurses delivering it must wear two gloves, a coat, mask, and glasses just in case a drop falls on their skin. All of such while sending high volumes directly into the patient's heart. Some will never walk again, have children one day, or even live for another month. They are frustrated! And what do they see in the media representing them? They see smiling bald kids from St. Judes Hospital. There is an outrageous sense of betrayal and misunderstanding lying in these people's hearts. That is the message that I feel compelled to deliver. Success for these young cancer patients means having their battles acknowledged, rather than their remission blindly celebrated.
I am inspired by them.
I am inspired by them.
Wow again! I never thought about this viewpoint. It has always been something that flies by me. It shows incredible will to be put in those situations and still want to make a difference. By providing a platform you give disenfranchised people voices. I still am not sure who donates to your non-profit.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that I am also inspired. I personally have never really thought about this view point and what it could supply honestly to any idea or in this case our business plan. I do think that what you are trying to do is amazing, being able to give these people a voice and the ability to connect. Many patients with illnesses like this have very little contact with other. I due have to agree with Brandon though, I think that part of this is also suppose to identify who is going to be donating to your cause.
